Barangay tanods finish info drive
MARIBOJOC – “I don’t need a religious policeman. I don’t need a peace officer who is a lay minister. “What I need is a police officer who has responsibility and commitment to duty. Thus, Mayor Leoncio Evasco Jr. told 30 barangay tanods from Bayacabac, Jandig, Pagnitoan, Candavid, San Isidro and Tinibgan who attended Saturday a one-day Barangay Tanod Orientation Course at the Bayacabac barangay hall this town.
On the same occasion, the former Davao city executive announced that the allowance of barangay tanods will be increased this year and assured them the full support and backing of his office to their operations, including a hand-held radio for every barangay and other necessary equipment. He concluded his speech with an emphasis on police visibility.
Aside from Mayor Evasco, the other speakers were Bayacabac barangay captain Ismaelito Aniscal, Jr. who delivered the welcome address and Barangay Tanod Municipal Federation President Raymund Nixer Coloma who gave the statement of purpose.
The resource person, on the other hand, included Municipal Local Government Operations Officer Victor Lapiz, Jr. Kagawad chair of peace and order Gualberto Melecio, chief of Police Jose “Abraw” Arocha , Greg Dapitilla, Mar Cornito and this writer. They discussed the following, subject matter areas: Functions and Duties of a barangay.
Tanods; drug addiction; How to effect arrest; violations against women and child abuse; surveillance; casing; and human relations. Meanwhile, the last batch of tanod training will take center stage at the Punta Cruz tower.
Function hall come Tuesday. It will be participated by 40 barangay policemen from Jandig, Poblacion, Dipatlong, Bood, Lagtangon, Guiwanon, Punta Cruz, Lincod and Punsod, all of this coastal municipality. (Fred C. Fuertes)
