Evasco Implements P15m Waterworks System Project
MARIBOJOC – Mayor Leoncio Evasco, Jr. led the groundbreaking ceremony of the Rehabilitation/Improvement/Expansion of the Maribojoc Waterworks System Project at the Punta Cruz Watch Tower grounds last Wednesday.
The local government of Maribojoc, through the authority given by the local sangguniang bayan, loaned P15M from the Land Bank of the Philippines to finance the water system development for barangays Punta Cruz, Guiwanon and the part upper of Jandig.
The Bolok-bolok Spring in Jandig is the identified water source while the reservoir will be constructed in Guiwanon. This water system will be linked to the existing water connection in barangay Lagtangon.
Punta Cruz punong barangay Faustino C. Dela Cerna expressed his jubilation that finally his barangay constituents and other project beneficiaries, after years of waiting, will now have water.
Dela Cerna said that most of the basic needs of the constituents of Maribojoc have been answered because of the initiative and determined leadership of Mayor Evasco.
He conveyed his gratitude for the continued delivery of basic social services, like food and health, through the mobile service caravans done in all 22 barangays.
Evasco shared his elation that the people will now have a sustainable water supply that has been long overdue for years. According to him, the local government extensively deliberated on the feasibility of the project, especially on its capacity to pay the loan amount without sacrificing the delivery of the basic social services to the people.
“Genuine local governance should focus on providing development projects that will alleviate the condition of our poverty stricken barangays. The poor should not be used only for a politician’s personal agenda,” he added.
The ceremonial embedment of the waterworks project designs and plans with the LGU’s commitment to pursue the completion of the project was witnessed by the punong barangays of Maribojoc and Tagbilaran City councilor and lawyer Oscar Glovasa. The groundbreaking ceremony of the water system coincided with the service caravan for barangays Guiwanon and Punta Cruz held at the same venue.
On the other hand, senior municipal councilor Fructuoso F. Redulla, Jr., Jandig punong barangay Brigido Panoga, Sr. and municipal planning and development coordinator Maria Nenita R. Chiu assisted Fr. Oriel Echavia in the ribbon-cutting ceremony and blessing of the municipal slaughter house in Sitio Cayaman, Jandig.
Phase 1 construction of the slaughterhouse was funded by financial benefits worth P241,178.11 from the DOE-NPC as former host municipality of the energy-generation facility (PB 101) under the trust account for the Reforestation, Watershed Management, Health and Environment Enhancement Fund. Phase II was completed through the P230,000 Kilos Asenso Fund from the DBM and DOF and the P250,000 local government counterpart. # (Moises Descallar & amjvistal)
Maribojoc Fire Station Activated
MARIBOJOC – A turn-over ceremony of the LGU Maribojoc’s Fire Truck and the activation of the Maribojoc Fire Station was held last Monday at the Maribojoc Presidencia grounds.
Mayor Leoncio B. Evasco, Jr. received from Provincial Fire Marshal FSUPT. Pepe G. Rebusa, OSHP, MPA, the symbolic key of the turned-over Fire Truck donated by the Bureau of Fire Protection.
Together with Fire Superintendent Rebusa was the new team to compose the Maribojoc Fire Station headed by Officer-In-Charge of the Office of the Municipal Fire Marshall (OIC/OMFM) SPO1 Ferdinand R. Bacareza.
The personnel for the town’s fire station are the following: FO1 Judith D. Enojales, PO3 Alberto Jumamil, PO1 Kim Guir, PO1 Martin Saguran, PO1 Winifredo L. Racho, PO1 Glenn Domino Descallar and PO1 Avelino Delarmente.
The fire truck is commissioned for fire protection use in the municipality of Maribojoc and likewise extends fire and other related emergency assistance to neighboring city and municipalities, especially the cluster municipalities of Cortes and Antequera.
Senior municipal councilor Fructuoso F. Redulla, Jr. expressed his jubilation on the recent acquisition of the new patrol car, the new ambulance and the new fire truck for the Maribojoc Emergency and Rescue Unit (MERU). He equated good politics to the performance of the present local government.
According to FSUPT Rebusa, the Maribojoc Fire Station personnel is expected to focus 100% of their efforts on fire prevention, fire fighting and auxiliary, medical and rescue services. He reminded his personnel to do their best and be efficient in their work.
Mayor Evasco, on his part, shared his desire for everyone, now that the three composite vehicles are available for the MERU. He appealed, “Kinahanglan kitang tanan mag-amping sa atong panglawas, mag-amping sa atong relasyon sa isi’g kataw, og mag-amping sa paggamit sa kayu og electric sa atong mga panimalay. “
He requested the Maribojoc Fire Station personnel to educate as soon as possible the people on fire prevention. Evasco suggested that IEC campaigns be given to school children and barangay residents, as well as conduct trainings for fire brigades and volunteer paramedics in the 22 barangays. # (Amjvistal)
Evasco Creates Maribojoc Emergency and Rescue Unit
MARIBOJOC – Mayor Leoncio B. Evasco, Jr. created on the first day of March the Executive Order No. 3, series of 2010, creating the Maribojoc Emergency and Rescue Unit (MERU) of the municipality.
The MERU’s creation is pursuant to Presidential Decree No. 1566, “Strengthening the Philippine Disaster Control, Capability and Establishing the National Program on Community Disaster Preparedness” through the creation of a Municipal Disaster Coordinating Council.
The local chief executive heads MERU, assisted by the municipal disaster and coordinating council action officer Engr. Nestoria Flores. Composing MERU’s members are the chief of the PNP Maribojoc Police Station, chief of the Maribojoc Fire Station, MPDC, MHO, municipal engineer, president of the Liga ng mga Barangay, president of the Maribojoc SK Federation, representatives from the Volunteer Fire Brigade and the Volunteer Paramedics.
The MERU will undertake the following functions: prepare a specific comprehensive plan of action for disaster management; ensure proper maintenance and upkeep of the physical center, vehicles, equipment, facilities and materials of the unit; conduct regular Information, Communication and Education (IEC) activities on emergency and rescue operations; and recruit, train and mobilize volunteer fire brigades and volunteer paramedics within the municipality. The General Services Office of the municipality is tasked to provide secretariat services to the MERU.
LGU Maribojoc is the recent recipient of a brand new Ambulance from the Philippine Charity Sweepstakes Office, a Police Patrol Car from the Philippine National Police and a Fire Truck from the Bureau of Fire Protection. The emergency and rescue unit will utilize these vehicles. # (amjvistal)
Boholano Killed in Afghanistan
MARIBOJOC – A Filipino-American army paratrooper whose lineage is from Poblacion, Maribojoc, Bohol has been killed while serving in Afghanistan – the first soldier from Maribojoc killed in the Middle East.
Specialist Ian T.D. Gelig, 25, died March 1 in Kandahar, Afghanistan, of wounds suffered when enemy forces attacked his vehicle with an improvised explosive device. He was assigned to the 782nd Brigade Support Battalion, 4th Brigade Combat Team, 82nd Airborne Division, U.S. Army, Fort Bragg, NC.
Gelig had been serving in Afghanistan since September. He enlisted in the Army in October 2006. After completing basic training in July 2007, he was sent to Kuwait for a 15-month tour of duty.
He is survived by his parents, Tim and Delia Gelig and his sisters, Vanessa and Liana of Poblacion, Maribojoc, Bohol who are currently residing in Santa Clarita Valley, California. Paul Gelig, Ian’s uncle, said he is travelling from Maribojoc, Bohol to the USA and will be in Santa Clarita this weekend to be with the family.
Mayor Leoncio B. Evasco, Jr. led the people of Maribojoc in offering its deepest condolences and prayers for the family last Wednesday. “Ian Gelig was a hero. He unselfishly dedicated his life to service, like a true Maribojocanon. Let his death be a reminder for all of us that our life here on earth is fleeting. Let God be our guide in our daily lives.”
Paratrooper David Tryon from Alpha Company, who served with Gelig, said in a press release, “Gelig was a good friend and great person. He was always there for you when you needed something. He will be deeply missed by everyone in this unit, for a piece of us went with him.”
“Gelig will always be with us,” said Pvt. Antonio Santos, also a paratrooper
from Alpha Company. “From the day you arrived you touched everyone’s
heart. You made us laugh, you made us smile, and you kept us from
falling apart.”
His unit will hold a memorial service in Afghanistan in his honor.
Likewise, California Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger issued a statement describing Gelig as “a dedicated soldier who served his country with honor and bravery.”
“His great courage and selflessness reminds all Californians of the extraordinary sacrifices our men and women in uniform make to keep us safe,” he said. “Maria and I are deeply saddened to learn of his passing and we extend our deepest condolences to Specialist Gelig’s family, friends and fellow soldiers during this difficult time.” In honor of Spc.
