42 Professionals Honored December 30

MARIBOJOC – Thirty-nine Maribojocanons will take center stage come December 30, this year, to receive their certificates of recognition for professional achievement at the Maribojoc Sports and Cultural Center.

Multi-awarded artist Teodorico Ramasola, an awardee of the Ten Outstanding Boholanos Around the World (TOBAW), will lead the list of honorees.

The annual recognition program is sponsored by the Saint Vincent Ferrer Alumni Association headed by Engr. Avelia Apayor de Vera.

Contractor – Engr. Takes over SVI alumni board presidency

MARIBOJOC – Engr. Avelia Apayor de Vera was recently elected president of the St. Vincent Institute Alumni Association vice Prescillano Echavia who tendered his irrevocable resignation.

Civic leader Moises “Boy” Descallar, Maribojoc’s Tesda coordinator, was also unanimously elected executive vice president of the aggrupation.

The other officers follow: SVI Principal Erlinda Ilano, vice president for the Visayas; retired Neda Regional Director Myra Villapaz Balandra, vice president for Mindanao; Roman Valles Jr., vice president for Luzon; Dr. Maria Nenita chiu, secretary; Municipal Agriculturist Eva Bolassco, treasurer, Wilfredo Reloba, Auditor; Councilor Cecilia Autentico and Architect Yoyon Ramasola, press relation officers.

The members of the Board of Directors are Msgr. Feliciano Nalzaro, Fr, Roquw Anquillero Jr., Winefreda Fuertes Flores, Ric Ramasola, Milueda Escabarte, Antonio Racho, Councilor Alberto Arangoso, Elizabeth Racho and this writer.

The association conducts a yearly honoring and recognition of Maribojocanons who passed bar and board examination and achieve outstanding feats. This year’s event takes center stage on December 28.(fcf)

7 Survivors of 1st MCBL Honored Today

MARIBOJOC – Of the original players who participated in the first Maribojoc Christmas Basketball League (MCBL), 11 are still living.

Seven of them who are residing in this history-rich coastal municipality, were honored last December 20, 2009 during the opening salvo of the 49th edition of the MCBL at the Maribojoc Sports & Cultural Center.

The surviving basketeers are: Godofredo Fuertes, Blas Echavez, Jr., Sergio Pilotos, Pepe Arana, Eddie Redulla, Florante Evasco and Moises Descallar.

The opening rites will start off at 7:30 tonight. Six teams will pit their basketball prowess in this yuletide tournament, concededly Bohol’s oldest league.

Mayor Leoncio Evasco, Jr., himself a cage mainstay during his seminary days, will lead the battery of speakers. #

Lantern Parade Ushers 2nd Christmas Festival

MARIBOJOC – A parade of lanterns early Wednesday (December 16, 2009) dawn ushered in the 2nd Maribojoc Christmas Festival.

Parishioners braced the chilly weather when they commuted with lanterns in their hands from their respective barangays leading towards the San Vicente Shrine Church.

The parade which started at 4:00 a.m. was followed by a eucharistic celebration officiated by Fr. Warren Abarquez, parish priest.

Shortly after, Mayor Leoncio B. Evasco, Jr., declared the Christmas shindig open.

Engr. Ma. Nenita Chiu, municipal planning and development coordinator, on the other hand announced the following tilts:

Belen Contest – Dec. 16; Pastores Contest – Dec. 18; Live Belen Contest – Dec. 19; Vocal Ensemble Encounter – Dec. 19; and Christmas Dance Competition – Dec. 19.

All contestants are limited to Maribojocanons only. #

Maribojoc Braces For 2nd Christmas Festival

MARIBOJOC- For the second time, this history-rich coastal municipality under the leadership of a dynamic chief executive, Mayor Boy Evasco, Jr., marks the yuletide season with a town-wide activity involving all barangays.

Dubbed as the 2nd Maribojoc Christmas Festival, it will banner competitions befitting the joyous season.

Friday, November 27, this year, saw the working committees and Punong Barangays convened at the town’s Sangguniang Bayan session hall to give the final touch to the project which placed Maribojoc in the national limelight when the Parade of Lanterns and inauguration of the refurbished municipal plaza were covered live by the giant television network ABS-CBN.

Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator Ma. Nenita Reyes Chiu presided over the meeting of the planners and implementor’s of Pasko sa Maribojoc Circa 2009.

Hereunder are the schedules of activities:

Dec.16-Parade of Lanterns and Parol Contest: Dec.18-Pastores Contest; Dec.19-Live Belen Contest; Vocal Ensemble Encounter (Christmas Medley); and Christmas Dance Interpretation.

Unlike last year where the different contests were open to all Boholanos, only Maribojocanons are qualified to join this year’s tilts.

Handsome prizes await the participants. Winners of the Parol Contest will go home richer by P 7,000 for 1st prize; P 5,000, 2nd prize; and P 2, 500, 3rd prize. The 1st five non-winners will earn P1,000 each while the tail-enders will settle for P300 each.

Municipal LAMP 2 Adjudicator Moises “Boy” Descallar chairs the Lantern Committee.

The top three winners of the Pastores Contest will receive P 5,000, 1st prize; P 3,000, 2nd prize; and P 2,000, 3rd prize. Non-winners will earn P 500 each.

University of Bohol Librarian Miriam Varon Lingo is the chairperson of the Pastores Contest Committee.

The Live Belen tilt carries the following prizes-P 7,000, 1st prize; P 5,000, 2nd prize; P 3,000, 3rd prize, plus P 1,500 per entry as consolation prize for non-winners. P 3,000 is appropriated for special awards.

The Vocal Ensemble Encounter (Christmas Medley) offers the following prizes –P 5,000, 1st prize; P 3,000, 2nd prize: and P 2,000, 3rd prize. Consolation prizes are pegged at P 1,000 each.
Erstwhile Dep Ed Regional Supervisor Policronia Garsuta, mother of IHMS Musical Director Fr. Irvin Garsuta, heads the committee assisted by retired depEd mentor-composer Jovenal Busalla.

Winners in the Christmas Dance Interpretation will get the following prizes: Elementary Level-1st prize, P2, 000; 2nd prize, P 1,000; and 3rd prize, P500. Secondary level – 1st prize, P 3,000; 2nd prize, P 2,000; and 3rd prize, P1, 000. Special awards are: Best in Costume-P1, 000 and Best in Props- P1, 000.

Municipal Councilor Reynaldo “Liling” Villas, a Holy Name University PE instructor, and Municipal Budget Officer Elizabeth Descallar Racho head the Christmas Dance Interpretation Committee.

It’s an Evasco-Veloso fight in Maribojoc

MARIBOJOC- It’s a toss-up between a performing mayor and a come-backing provincial board member who is a former non-performing mayor in the mayoralty race in this coastal town.

After contemplating of running for vice mayor, Provincial Board Member Jose Veloso finally decided to take a crack at the highest post of the municipality.

On the prodding reportedly by a gubernatorial bet, Veloso will challenge the town chief executive who turned Maribojoc two years after he sit on the mayoralty throne into a fourth class municipality.

In the vice mayoralty race, Sr. Municipal Councilor Fructuoso F. Redulla, Jr. will slug it cut with incumbent Municipal Kagawad Leoncio Reselosa. Political pindite see it as a nobody’s game.

Evasco’s Nationalist People’s Coalition-Tribu Kauswagan is bannered by the following Sanggunian Bayan aspirants. Erstwhile Deped Supervisor Florante Evasco, Reyland Jabonillo, Engr. Romulo Manuta, former PNP Chief of Police Gualberto “Macky” Melecio, Andresa ‘Lalai” Pohl, Arnulfo “Arnie” Turco, Jr., Joel “Bobong” Valles, and HNU mentor Reynaldo “Liling” Villas.

Lakas Kampi-CMD will field the following SB Candidates, Alberto Arangoso, Gumersindo Arocha, Filomena Asedilla, Cecilia Autentico, Emilio Castilla, Hermes Cimafranca, Lourdes Endo and Berarda Villorejo.

Former BarangayCaptain Maximo Almedilla is the lone independent candidate under the umbrella of the Liberal Party.#
