Evasco Intensifies Crime Prevention Campaign

MARIBOJOC – For years, Maribojoc was known as a center of trade for marijuana, shabu and other illegal drugs. Now, the fourth class municipality of Maribojoc is considered a peaceful town of 18,133 people.

Mayor Leoncio B. Evasco, Jr., during a gathering of sangguniang kabataan and barangay captain officials, tricycle and habal-habal drivers, public market vendors and the Maribojoc PNP team, committed to stop the proliferation of drug addicts in the municipality by providing them with employment opportunities for them to start a new life.

Mayor Evasco assured the multitude that he will not stop until the names of these drug addicts are erased from the list. He told the group that the peace and order of a community reflects the kind of family each person grew up. He noted that various factors contribute to one’s upbringing, and the family is a priority.

Habal-habal and tricycle drivers were advised to keep watch of strangers and swindlers loitering the municipality as they might be used as their means of transportation. Mayor Evasco informed the peddlers to secure first a Mayor’s Permit before they could transact business in Maribojoc to provide a fair business atmosphere to local market vendors.

During the forum held at the public market on the morning of August 31, local residents were reminded to be wary of picketers and pocket lifters inside the public market, especially during market days. Mayor Evasco encouraged them to exercise citizen’s arrest if they personally witness crimes being committed.

He reiterated that amicable settlements are only applicable during legal engagements with the barangay captains and fiscal, and that no settlements can be made during interrogation with police officers. Mayor Evasco also thoroughly discussed the five pillars of justice: Law Enforcement, The Public Prosecutor, The Judiciary, Correctional Institutions, and The Community.

SPO4 Jose Vendencia Arocha of the Maribojoc PNP facilitated the open forum, ABC Federation President Marcelina Dapiton led the opening prayer and MLGOO Victor S. Lapiz, Jr. welcomed the participants to the half-day affair.# amjvistal


Maribojoc Hosts Unit 1-C Sub-congressional District Athletics Meet ‘09

MARIBOJOC – The local government unit here and its’ district schools hosted Unit 1-C’s sub-congressional district athletics meet in Barangay Anislag last August 29.

The one-day athletics meet commenced with an opening program held at the Maribojoc Central Elementary School Sports Complex. Participating municipalities and district schools included Antequera, Balilihan, Catigbian, Cortes, and the host municipality.

In attendance were Maribojoc Mayor Leoncio B. Evasco, Jr. together with Acting Vice-Mayor Fructuoso F. Redulla, Jr., Mayor Cecilia Rebosura of Antequera, and Municipal Councilor Bartolome Bastes of Balilihan. Unit 1-C’s schools district supervisors and coordinating principals also graced the affair.

The program hosted by Maribojoc Councilor Cecilia Autentico, started with a meaningful invocation given by Rev. Fr. Warren Abarquez, parish priest of the Holy Cross Parish. Lourdes Lumantas, SIC-Punta Cruz Elementary School, led the singing of the hymns and Maribojoc District Coordinating Principal Milueda Escabarte gave the words of welcome. Escabarte applauded all athletes, coaches, members of the working committees, and guests for giving importance to the athletics meet, as sports development for the youth is a national priority.

Barangay Kagawad Artemio Campos of San Vicente gave a message in behalf of Punong Barangay Pedro Jaminal, while Dr. Dedicacion Saguran, the principal of the Santa Cruz Elementary School, presented the participating delegations.

Mayor Evasco led the raising of the Unit 1-C Flag assisted by Acting Vice-Mayor Redulla, while delegation heads took charged in the raising of their respective delegation flags. Acting Vice-Mayor Redulla, in his message, gave emphasis on the spirit of sportsmanship among athletes, coaches, and the rest of the members of the delegation. He said winning was not important, what mattered was how each team member imbibe the values and discipline of an athlete.

The town’s own CVIRAA volleyball athlete Ryan Buca initiated the lighting of the torch and the Unit 1-C friendship urn, and Busao National High School athlete Jason Pilongo delivered the oath of amateurism.

Balilihan District High School principal Serapia Jala represented the chairperson of the Bohol Task Force on School Sports, Dr. Clemen M. Jala. Mr. Gudito Alcala gave the oath of officiating officials and Maribojoc Community Sports Coordinator Florante Evasco declared the opening of the 2009 Unit 1-C Sub-congressional District Athletic Meet.

Thirteen (13) events were on play last August 29, with athletes representing Unit 1-C Sub-congressional District Athletics Association, namely: athletics, badminton, baseball/softball, basketball, chess, dance sports, football, sipa/sepak takraw, swimming, table tennis, taekwondo, tennis, and volleyball.

The athletic meet had four levels: the Elementary Level (Boys), Elementary Level (Girls), Secondary Level (Boys) and Secondary Level (Girls). Playing venues included the Maribojoc Central Elementary School Sports Complex, Lincod Elementary School, Santa Cruz Elementary School, Maribojoc Public Market, and the Maribojoc Cultural and Sports Center.

The awarding ceremony was held later in the evening. The delegation from Catigbian won a total of 69 gold medals, 29 silver medals, 23 bronze medals and 2 fourth places. Maribojoc athletes followed suit with 41 gold, 28 silver, 15 bronze, and 1 fourth place. Balilihan athletes triumphed with 25 gold medals, 30 silver medals, 26 bronze medals, and 2 fourth places. The Cortes delegation had 17 gold medals, 17 silver medals, and 11 bronze medals. Antequera came in with 12 gold medals, 10 silver medals, 11 bronze medals, and 1 fourth place. # amjvistal


LGU Maribojoc Conducts Budget Forum

MARIBOJOC – The Local Government Unit of Maribojoc held a Budget Forum on the Budget Call for Fiscal Year 2010 last Thursday, August 27. The forum was attended by all department heads, heads of offices and section heads, members of the Sangguniang Bayan Committee on Appropriation, all Tax and other Local Revenue Collectors, as well as those in-charge of offices where income are derived.

OIC Municipal Accountant Evelyn C. Jugo led the opening prayer for the one-day activity that was held at the Sangguniang Bayan Session Hall, Maribojoc Presidencia.

Municipal Budget Officer Elizabeth D. Racho facilitated the forum while Municipal Planning and Development Coordinator Ma. Nenita R. Chiu gave the opening remarks and presented the Maribojoc Medium Term Development Plan for 2007-2010.

Budget Officer Racho emphasized during the start of the activity that the Budget Forum was primarily called to prescribe guidelines to be observed by offices/departments/sections in the preparation of budget proposals consistent with the Annual Investment Plan for FY 2010. MPDC Chiu presented LGU Maribojoc’s development goals and strategies, and its various development programs and projects, ongoing and proposed.

Mayor Leoncio B. Evasco, Jr. reminded everyone to practice austerity in using government funds and properties. He also stressed the importance of attaining their targeted outputs and providing the general public with quality service.

Budget Officer Racho reported the comparative assessment of income and expenditures for the year 2008 and January to June 2009. She also explained the income estimates and sources of income for FY 2010.

On the second half of the activity, spending ceilings and budget strategies were identified while department heads and heads of offices initially prepared their functional statements with specific targets and budgetary allocations.

The budget forum was initiated by the Local Finance Committee and coordinated by Budget Officer Racho and MPDC Chiu in consultation with Mayor Evasco. # amjvistal
