RESOLUTION REQUIRING ALL PRIMARY / ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS IN THE DISTRICT OF MARIBOJOC, BOHOL TO PLANT AND MAINTAIN A SCHOOL BANANA ORCHARD TO SUSTAIN THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION (DepEd) SUPPLEMENTARY FEEDING PROGRAM FOR MALNOURISHED SCHOOL CHILDREN.

WHEREAS, it is a program of the DepEd to serve supplementary feeding to all malnourished school children on specified school days year-round to remedy inadequate nutrition;
WHEREAS, the persons concerned of managing the program in the schools like the teachers and parents are anxious that they cannot sustain the activity because of the soaring prices of the food essential in the preparation of the supplementary feeding;;
WHEREAS, a DepEd project to combat malnutrition in the Applied Nutrition Program (ANP) where the food for supplementary feeding is generated from the indigenous products of the school and community;
WHEREAS, cultivating banana plants into an orchard develops the skill of gardening among school children which is a component of Work Education in the DepEd curriculum;
WHEREAS, propagating bananas and maintaining into an orchard is an easy work because it starts with rhizomes that are transplanted; suitable in tropical climates and little rainfall; and the new shoots or suckers continue to produce new plants generation after generation for several decades;
WHEREAS, banana fruits as food is rich in vitamin and mineral contents like potassium that boosts brain power; iron for hemoglobin in the blood; B vitamins to help calm the nervous system; and carbohydrates for energy;
WHEREAS, there are two (2) main varieties of bananas; the fruit or sweet banana which is eaten raw out of hand when it turns yellow and the plantain or cooking banana which is prepared boiled, fried, roasted, chips and fritters, cue and ingredients in banana cake and “benignit”;
WHEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Bayan in their session duly assembled;
“To require all Primary / Elementary Schools in the District of Maribojoc, Bohol to Plant and Maintain a School Banana Orchard to Sustain the Department of Education (DepEd) Supplementary Feeding Program for Malnourished School Children”;
BE IT RESOLVED FURTHER, that copies of this resolution be furnished to all Principals, Head Teachers and schools-in-charge of all primary / elementary schools in the District of Maribojoc, Bohol for their information, guidance and appropriate action.
