RESOLUTION REQUESTING THE MANAGERS/OPERATORS ENGAGED IN COMMERCIAL FISHING NOT TO ALLOW SCHOOL CHILDREN/STUDENTS OF MARIBOJOC, BOHOL TO PARTICIPATE IN FISHING ACTIVITIES DURING SCHOOL DAYS..

WHEREAS, the Municipality of Maribojoc, Bohol has many fishermen who go fishing with different fishing gears in the deep seawater of which some are engaged in commercial fishing with operators/managers;
WHEREAS, commercial fishing attracts school children/students and they participate in this fishing activity even at night time on school days because they receive a share of the fish caught;
WHEREAS, this may help the family economically but it violates children’s welfare;
WHEREAS, this kind of fishing venture is detrimental to the health of these minors because they lack sleep, exposed to cold weather and the seawater;
WHEREAS, it risky for their lives in traveling through boats, pumpboats or bamboo crafts to the fishing area and in performing the fishing activity;
WHEREAS, it adversely affects the education of the school children/students with the consequences that they lack interest in their studies, sleep during class hours, absent from school, get low of failing grades, drop-out from school or cut classes because they have the money to squander;
WHEREAS, school children/students may participate in commercial fishing on non-school days (Friday evening) provided the operators/managers will ensure their safety and incase of untoward incidents they will shoulder the expenses;
WHEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED, AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, by the Sangguniang Bayan of Maribojoc, Bohol in its session duly assembled,
BE IT RESOLVED AS IT IS HEREBY RESOLVED, to request the managers/operators engaged in commercial fishing not to allow school children/students of Maribojoc, Bohol to participate in fishing activities during school days;
BE IT RESOLVED FURTHER, that copies of this resolution be furnished to all barangay Captains, all operators/managers enaged in commercial fishing and to the school principals of Maribojoc, Bohol for their information, guidance and appropriate action.
